"What's That?" Wednesday

Well, I don't really know how to start today's post or how to exactly word everything.  So I'll just jump right in... I am taking the rest of this week and next off from my blog.  I'm going to do a trial separation I guess you'd say....from Daily Cup of T.  I really do like having a blog. It's kind of fun and motivating for me, but truth be told I have a little too much on my plate right now to be dealing with my daily cup.

This blog has been therapeutic for me since my health ordeal this past summer. It has given me something else to focus on.  I have enjoyed my weekly missions, sharing recipes, and blabbing on and on about whatever. However, having a blog takes time and energy, and I really need to put that elsewhere right now.  We have some possible changes coming up for our family...a possible move...the holidays...and honestly housework alone gets backed up when I am blogging away to you all.:)  I may find a way to keep it going and that's why this is a "trial separation" for me.  If I miss blogging too much, I'll be back.

Thanks for reading everyone!  Have a great rest of the week and I'll let you know when I know if I'll be getting back to my blog. Thanks again!

"What's That?" Wednesday

What's that?  Did you notice my Wednesday title change?  "Wonderful Wednesday" sounded a little too cheesy to me.  Mid-week I have enjoyed just writing about something I have found worthy of sharing.  It may be a good book, product, idea, or website.  In other words, it's a little like show-and-tell, and it's usually something new that has caught my eye.  Something that has made me look twice and say "What's that, again?"  Voila!  So I now have "What's That?" Wednesday.

Anyways, some friends told me about a couple of great ideas on what to do with all that leftover Halloween candy.  I had heard of ideas here and there, but now I have sites for reference.  This year, my 2 year old did not hit up too many houses trick or treating, but I know in years to come our candy stash will only get bigger. We'll be hitting up more houses and we'll hopefully have more kids of our own out there gathering the sweets. More kids. Older kids. More candy!

  • If you decide you just can't fork over the candy, then maybe try one of these leftover Halloween candy recipes here.
  • If you need to get it out of your house pronto, then check out these programs ..........................www.halloweencandybuyback.com. Here you can find participating nearby dentists willing to "buy back" your candy with either money or toothbrushes, etc.  The candy is sent on to Operation Gratitude. Two awesome programs!!! Who knew we could turn Halloween into something better for our teeth and something so patriotic?

I found this video posted below to show you more about Operation Gratitude. It's worth a watch! My husband is in the Navy, so I do have a soft spot for all those serving our country. Whether you have a family or friend in the military or not, I hope you also appreciate all that these men and women do for every one of us everyday.  After watching this, I am in the mood to send a care package!  I also now know what I'll be doing with my leftover Halloween candy for years to come!

    What's That?
It's Operation Gratitude, and it's awesome.

Thanks to Eva, Julie, and Jeanne for my Wednesday inspiration!

    Wonderful Wednesday

So I saw this video this morning with some friends at my usual Wednesday morning gathering.  I thought it was well done and pretty thought provoking.  If you have a couple minutes...did I already lose you?  I hope not. :)  I thought it was cool... and I have this blog... and today is my Wonderful Wednesday assignment...so I thought why not? It was something wonderful on Wednesday. Why not share it?  I hope you will give it your time.  I know without a doubt it applies to us all.  I hope you feel the same.  If not, no biggie.  Thanks for checking it out.  Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!

Have a great day everyone! Half way to the weekend! Woo woo!!!

    Wonderful Wednesday

Something I've Found to be Wonderful....
...whether it's a book, idea, product, website, movie, etc.

    It's an App for Today

Don't you just love it when you find out about some cool new thing?  I do.  This is why I am lucky to have my friend Molly.  She is up on many cool new things.  Last week I received a cute picture text from her that was labeled.  Now how did she do that?  Well, it's called "Smilebox".  The company actually has a cool website that can do a lot of other awesome things with your photos too. Check it out at www.smilebox.com.  I am sticking with one cool thing at a time though!  So first be sure to check out their awesome app for iPhone.....

Look what I did!  I think it's so fun!

If you'd like to check out something else cool, click here to read what I love about Daily Mom Report.  Molly is one of the two geniuses behind this gem... so it's no wonder that she's up on what's all out there! Love ya Molls! Thanks again for the tip about Smilebox!

    Wonderful Wednesday

Something I've Found to be Wonderful....
...whether it's a book, idea, product, website, movie, and now apparently cereal.

I thought I'd share my latest addiction with you all.  I really LOVE this stuff!  As you can see here, I buy the "crunch lover's pack" so I am not messing around.  I don't really like it with milk, but just as a dry snack in the morning ...noon... and night.  It's full of protein and fiber too which apparently are healthy.  Try it yourself and I bet you'll like it too!:)

    Wonderful Wednesday

So this is just something that caught my eye yesterday... Old Navy is having what they are calling a "One Day Wonder" this Saturday only. All of their puffy vests are $12.  I always think those look so cute. Maybe I'll go get one for us all. Their flyer says you can get up to 5 vests at this price. Pretty cool. Thought I'd share the news of the "One Day Wonder" on this Wonderful Wednesday!

Go get yourself a puffy vest this weekend!:)

Did you all already know how to peel a kiwi like this?  Well, I did not.  My life as a kiwi peeler is forever changed.  I cannot take credit so I am going to link you to my source.  Click here at http://www.steamykitchen.com and you can learn this too.  I was skeptical.  I watched their video once and went straight to my fridge.  We do not always have kiwi on hand, but we did the day I saw this.  It's legit.  So easy and kind of fun!  Blake watched me and I think she wanted it because of its fun name.  Now she is requesting kiwi as a snack and I feel like such the cool kiwi cuttin' mom.  I think that is something wonderful to share on this Wednesday.  Hope you learned something new too!

    Wonderful Wednesday

Something I've Found to be Wonderful....
...whether it's a book, idea, product, website, movie, etc.

Hmmm...something wonderful this week?  TV. Every night!  I am just so excited this year for the new season of shows to be starting back up.  It's not like I have been a major couch potato years prior, but I am seriously just loving TV this week.  Maybe it is because I have been productive with things after my daughter goes to bed and I now I have a reason to just veg.  Bad, bad, bad week to work on my closet!  Today's post is short so I can get to that challenge while my tot naps.

Any shows out there you all are loving?  My line-up has been....Dancing with the Stars, Parenthood, Up All Night...now comes Modern Family, Grey's, Private Practice....how will I ever get anything done?!

OBTW...negative on the 30 Day Shred.  I did one day.  I have been doing morning jogs and Zumba though so I am not going to beat myself up about it.  This blog has made me more productive than normal, but I think I need to simmer down on shouting out too many goals. I actually have to do them to do them, and I can't keep up.  Closet now.  Shred later.:)

    Wonderful Wednesdays

    Something I've
    Found to be Wonderful....
...whether it's a book, idea, website, movie, etc.

So my sister told me about this workout video, Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred, and I've heard many other people talk about it lately.  I think it has real potential to be something wonderful.  I say "potential" because I actually have to do the workout to see the results. Imagine that, huh?  I am smart enough to know the claim of losing "x" amount of weight in "x" amount of days is always a "results may vary" kind of thing.  However, this video has it's appeal.

I bought it, did 3 days, and honestly felt so good about it.  Well, I took one day off and never got back to it!  I want to do this, but I am lacking motivation.  Ugh.  Why can't we more disciplined with even the simplest of things?  This workout video is only 20 minutes...yes only 20 freaking minutes of my day...for the suggested 30 days.  I should be able to do this all year. Just put it in the player and press play, Tasha.

Well, this blog has actually been helping me follow through on goals a little more than my usual.  Sooo...starting tomorrow...ugh...no, today...I am DOING the 30 Day Shred.  There are levels 1, 2, and 3.  Hopefully, by next Wednesday I can report that I am done with level 1 and I will think of some wonderful way to reward myself.  I think along with discipline and accountability, I need incentives.  Wish me luck!  I'm off to shred!

    Wonderful Wednesday

Something I've Found to be Wonderful....
...whether it's a book, idea, website, movie, etc.

If you haven't already heard of Pinterest, you really should check it out.  It's awesome.  When I first heard of it, my first thought was kind of "what now?"  I was wondering if I would have to keep up with something new or if it was tricky to understand.  I'm not a genius with new computer stuff.  I love Facebook.  Twitter grabs my eye occasionally, but I'm not really a tweeter. Ha!  So what was this thing called Pinterest?

Well, you really just kind of have to check it out yourself to get the full picture.  It is a website, www.pinterest.com, and there is an app for your phone.  It's mainly a great source of inspiration, and for me it's a mood lifter.  There are a ton of beautiful pictures and clever ideas that you can sift through and "pin" something that you find of interest. You can create virtual clipboards in a sense. If you see something on the actual website or actually anywhere on the web, you can can "pin" it  and save it for later.  Find a cool living room arrangement, pin it to a "ideas for the house" folder.  Find a mouth watering recipe, pin it to a "recipe" folder.   Making any sense? If you click on the actual pictures themselves, it then links you to their source.  So it is also a great way to find new blogs and cool websites that you might not find otherwise.

It's kind of hard to describe, so just go check it out.  When I first got into it, I kind of wondered why no one had already mentioned it to me.  It was like this awesome little secret.  Well, it's taking over now and you may have already seen or heard about it.  If not, see if it's for you.  I bet you'll find it very Pinteresting!;)

    Wonderful Wednesday

Well, here we are at "Wonderful Wednesday" again!  Ha!  I am still not completely in love with this day's title.  Anyways, I do have two new wonderful ideas to tell you all about. Neither one of them I thought of, but I sure wish I would have!  I'm just spreading the word on these....

    1. One of my friends had this brilliant idea that is getting us out of cooking one night a week.  What we are doing (we just started this week) is doubling our batch of whatever we make for Tuesday night's dinner.  Then when we see each other on Wednesday morning at our usual mom/kid get together, we swap the meals, so no cooking on Wednesday night!  It's just a reheat and voila!  Sweet, huh?  I'll admit at first I was slightly hesitant because I have to put a little more thought into whatever we eat on Tuesday.  In other words, something that is good reheated and hopefully tastes good enough to give to a friend.  So far so good!  We decided to put them in coolers since we weren't going immediately back home.  We will then just rotate coolers each week.  The arranged dinner deal went down this morning and I now don't have to cook tonight!  Woo hoo!  Hopefully, you may know of a friend or coworker that you could go in with and also give this a try!

    2. Crock Pot Girls.  Have you heard of them yet?!  This idea has such an eye-catching name and has literally become an overnight sensation. These three women in Texas started a Facebook page only around 10 days ago and they already have over 750,000 likes!  Crazy!  They have also started a website as well, www.crockpotgirls.com, and on both sites people can post their favorite crock pot recipes.  I'm all excited to get my crock pot out and give some of those recipes a whirl.  I see there are other crock pot pages as well on Facebook, but these ladies hit the jackpot with their catchy name I think. The jackpot of crock pot ideas. Hmmm. I just can't help but wonder, why didn't I think of that?!  I'm sure they are having a lot of fun with it and may even have some advertisers in line for their site.  Too cool.  Check it out!

    Have a Wonderful Wednesday everyone!:)

    Wonderful Wednesday

So I kind of felt like "The Wednesday Write-Up" sounded boring.  I am stumped for a hump day title, but that's okay.  This week I thought I'd go with Wonderful Wednesday because while I write about something new I find of interest...whether it's a book, movie, website, whatever...I realized I probably will only pick something I like.  Something I find to be a little bit wonderful possibly.  Next week I may change my mind on this, but let's just go with it.

I was recently told by a friend that I must check out this website that has this awesome system for photo organization. Something that is suppose to simplify and take away the guilt we feel when we are behind with pictures, etc.

A system that is less involved than scrapbooking (or, ahem, say a baby book)....
    Guilty.
yet more involved than simply letting your photos stay in your computer or in your camera.....
    Guilty again.
What is this wonderful system or website you ask?  It's called "Project Life", and it can be found at beckyhiggins.com.  It looks awesome!!!  Check out the video and site for a more in depth explanation.  I can't tell you my honest opinion on it all yet, because I do not yet have it.  My mission for next Monday is to have Blake's baby book up to date.  Shortly after that though, I am looking into getting Project Life. It looks pretty wonderful to me!

    The Wednesday Write-Up

Click here to read a couple pages

I'll just go ahead and say it...I am a Bethenny Frankel fan.  I had seen her here and there before, but I didn't really follow any one thing of hers.  I watched a couple episodes of The Real Housewives of New York, and thought she stood out from the other wives, but it's not like I tuned in regularly or saw every episode.  I only mention this show really because I think it's what most people recognize Bethenny Frankel from.  You may have seen her on Martha Stewart: Apprentice, Bethenny's Getting Married?, or Bethenny Ever After, Skating with the Stars, or read any of her three books, or magazine health columns, or know her as the creator of the Skinnygirl cocktails.  Pretty sure she was just on the cover of Forbe's magazine too.  Anyways, these are just a few of the things she's done in the public eye.  She also was an event planner for major movie premieres before becoming famous and ran her own baked goods line called BethennyBakes.  She is way more than any one accomplishment she has done though. Not your stereotypical television housewife of New York that is for sure...not that she was even married while on the show.

Anyways, A Place of Yes was, in my opinion, a terrific read.  I believe I needed to read this book at this point in my life, and I am sure I will pick it up again from time to time.  It may sound like a self help book that is just going to be all about being positive, and you may honestly think "aw, who has time for that crap".  It's not just about being positive or becoming a "yes man" though.  A place of yes is an "it-will-happen-because-I'll-make-it-happen" kind of attitude.

She talks of 10 rules for getting everything you want out of life, and a lot about her own life.  I found her to be very easy to relate to, brutally honest, and admirable.  I agree with her when she speaks about the timing of life and how you have to roll with it and work at it to make it work for you.  I have felt a difference in my outlook on some things that had me down recently, and I'm sure reading this book had something to do with that.  Thank you Bethenny Frankel!  I'll stop there, but I highly recommend this book. :)
